The Bioenergetic Model of Health with Jay Feldman

Jay Feldman is health coach, independent health researcher, and host of the Energy Balance Podcast. He uses a bioenergetic approach to help men and women around the world maximize their cellular energy, optimize their health, and achieve freedom from low-energy symptoms like chronic hunger & cravings, fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, gut issues, hormone imbalances, and stubborn weight gain.

In this episode we explore the Bioenergetic Model and delve into mitochondrial dysfunction and general metabolic health issues.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Sufficient energy (ATP) is what causes health, low energy is what causes disease

  • Most people have issue with the end of energy production called the Electron Transport Chain (ETC) of the Mitochondria

  • Slowing or inhibition of the ETC causes upstream problems leading all the way up to glucose regulation and insulin resistance

  • The top insults that cause this slowing are Polyunsaturated Fats (PUFA), Endotoxin (LPS/LTA), nutrient deficiencies and stress.

  • The biggest sources of PUFA are seed oils and seeds, fatty fish, fatty chicken and fatty pork.

  • Endotoxemia is commonly seen in diabetes and obesity stemming from gut bacterial overgrowth

  • Reducing this overgrowth by eliminating seeds, and specific vegetable along with the consumption of fruit-based polyphenols can recondition the gut to lower endotoxin

  • B vitamins and magnesium are the most common micronutrients deficiencies slowing metabolic rate

  • Stress, whether psychological or physiological, also contributes to mitochondrial dysfunction
